Reflection:

I am really thankful to have this opportunity to work with HCSA to design a space specially for the community. In November last year, we were first briefed on this project, which is to design a play space for kids. Although the project seemed interesting, we had never touched spacial design before, hence many of us were worried and at a lost.

However, things didn't start off as badly for my group, and instead it went really smoothly. We managed to decide and work on the activities we were going to engage the kids with while gathering insights from them, their parents and the staff. And it was a success.

Through "Life-size snake and ladder", we learnt that kids love free-play and dislike following rules. Through "Describe to illustrator" and "Play-doh", we gathered that imagination is really important in one's childhood, and are able to understand how wild and creative a child's mind can be without being restrained by logic and practicality. And we realized that we really want our concept to be that area where kids are able to unleash their imagination and creativity freely.

Like all the projects we have done, a lot of thinking has to be put into designing a product, and many factors have to be considered, especially safety in this case. Because we often view things in the way we perceive and assume, we tend to overlook other perspectives. What stood out from this project as compared to the others, was that I personally feel that it really pushed me to think further into design and reminded me of why I take up design initially.
